A fantastic weekend of catching up with old friends & reminiscing over a beer or two, great weather and a bit of footy thrown into the mix, made for an excellent weekend of celebration. Friday night saw many old faces congregate at the Renmark Sporting Club, renewing acquaintances and looking over a great display of memorabilia. President, Henry DuRieu welcomed everyone to the weekend and a special presentation of centenary guernseys was made to the A grade team on the night. Saturday saw the opening of the new grandstand by mayor, Neil Martinson. Prior to the game, a magnificent rendition of the National Anthem was sung by Renmark High student, Maggie DeLeon. Well done Maggie! Patron, Paul Cerrachi tossed to coin to start the Centenary re-match game, Renmark v Waikerie. Unfortunately for Renmark, Waikerie outclassed the Rovers on the day & won the game in fine style. Renmark player, Ryan Bennett was judged best for the Rovers and received a signed "100 Guernsey" for his efforts. The finale to the day was the Centenary Dinner held at the Renmark Club on Saturday night. Over 400 past players & members attended a splendid night of celebration of which a highlight was the presentation of Life Membership to local football historian, David Dunhill. Thanks must go to Brenton Franks & his team at the Renmark Club for an outstanding night. Celebrations continued well into the night, spilling over to a Sunday brunch at the Renmark Sporting Club. A highlight of the morning was the Under 11's game which was keenly umpired by former Renmark runner, trainer & coach, Graham 'Wog' Warren (now living in Roxby Downs.) This capped off a superb weekend for the Renmark Rovers. Special thanks must go to Irving Printers, Murray Pioneer, Tony Hersey, Heather Everingham, David Dunhill, the Renmark Club, Renmark Sporting Club, Centenary Committee and everyone who attended, to make the Centenary celebrations a memorable event.
